What does CHESED mean?

CHESED (חֶסֶד) is a Hebrew word found throughout the Old Testament. It is often translated as steadfast love, lovingkindness, mercy, faithfulness, or covenant love.

But no single English word fully captures its meaning.

CHESED speaks of a love that is faithful, committed, and enduring—the kind of love God continues to show His people because of who He is.

In Psalm 136, this truth is repeated again and again:

“His steadfast love endures forever.” — Psalm 136:1

CHESED is more than a feeling.
It is love that remains. Love that keeps its covenant. Love that does not give up.

That is CHESED.
That is the love of God.
